I have a problem with spending a lot of prayer time asking God "what have You done for me lately?" We have been studying Genesis on Sunday nights at church and I have found myself a bit envious of the people of that era and the direct way that God spoke to them...it's great to have the Bible and all, but I sure wish that we lived in an era where God actually SPOKE when we prayed.
I read recently that according to what is recorded in Scripture, God spoke to Abraham or intervened overtly in his life about every 15 years. So I have to ask myself how he felt and coped during those times when God was silent. He had no Bible to pull out, he had no church to attend. It made me feel a little better about the status quo.
