Work

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. (Philippians 2:12, 13 ESV)
I love these verses, because they beautifully combine two things that from our vantage seem incompatible: our freedom and God's sovereignty.
We work. God works. And exactly how those truths play out is simply a mystery to us. Our choices are real and we are responsible for them...yet God ordains and works out His plan, which somehow includes every sparrow that falls.
I have even come to love my lack of understanding on this point; a god no bigger than my finite comprehension is no true God at all.
